Robot House: Custom Development Workflow
Project Flexibility
We understand that mission objectives vary between organizations. While some partners require a full-scale production fleet, others focus solely on research or early-stage idea validation. Our engagement model is built to accommodate this flexibility: you may choose to conclude the project at any stage of the lifecycle.
Upon the conclusion of our collaboration at any milestone, we provide a complete handoff of all work results. This includes the physical hardware, detailed technical documentation, and all test results collected during the validation phases. Our goal is to ensure you have a robust foundation for your next steps, whether they lead to further independent research or full-scale deployment.
Cooperation model
Engineering partnerships are rarely a standard fit. We offer three distinct engagement frameworks designed to align our technical capacity with your internal project resources, functioning as either a full-service design bureau or a dedicated extension of your development team..
Full-cycle Development
We handle the entire project lifecycle, from initial hardware prototyping to final low-level software integration, delivering a field-ready robotic system tailored to your exact needs.
- Rapid Prototyping: We build fast proofs of concept using our proven UGV platforms, reducing your mechanical R&D time so you can deploy sooner.
- Turnkey Integration: We engineer the entire robotic system around your unique operational requirements, delivering a cohesive, purpose-built solution ready for immediate field deployment.
- Production Delivery: We oversee the final manufacturing and ruggedization process, providing you with a fully operational, field-ready solution.
Co-Development
Operate as a single unit with our engineers in a peer-to-peer partnership, combining your payload expertise with our deep knowledge of ruggedized mobility and ROS 2 middleware.
- Unified Workstreams: We establish a customized collaborative environment that seamlessly integrates our engineering workflows with your team, ensuring frictionless teamwork that drastically shortens your R&D cycles.
- ROS 2 Mastery: Our experts natively integrate modern ROS 2 standards into your workflow, future-proofing your software architecture without a steep learning curve.
- Mobility Expertise: We inject our hands-on UGV chassis knowledge directly into your team, helping you avoid costly mechanical trial-and-error in the field.
Consulting
Leverage our high-level engineering consultancy to review your system architecture, optimize sensor integration, and validate complex mechanical decisions before moving to production.
- Architectural Review: We provide project-based validation of your system design to help you navigate mission constraints and prevent expensive pre-production mistakes.
- Payload Optimization: Our team advises on optimal sensor placement and mechanical robustness, ensuring reliable data flow and maximum performance for your equipment.
- Regulatory Guidance: We outline a clear path for hardware compliance and CE/FCC certification, streamlining your transition from research prototype to commercial product.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Custom Robotics
We offer various cooperation models in response to customer needs. Each method involves different costs for the customer. Differences may also arise from the division of IP after the project is completed.
It depends. Simple platforms can be created using our Leo or Raph rovers. This can take about 2-3 weeks. Design and manufacturing of the custom robot can take many months, depending on the complexity of the project. We provide more estimates during project scoping and consulations.
Yes, we have our own assembly facility which can handle low-scale manufacturing. To handle higher quantities we can cooperate with the customer to outsource the manufacturing or expand our own facilities.
General
Fictionlab is a Polish (European Union) company based in Wrocław. Both production and product development are located there.
Yes, all of our products are designed to be modified, and you are encouraged to tinker with it and adjust it for your projects. We support a 'Right to Repair & Hack' philosophy, meaning such modifications do not void your access to support.

Custom Robotics for Mobile Robots
Building mobile robots that work outside the lab requires more than “small modifications.” This custom robotics offering is designed for teams that need a purpose-built robotic system-hardware + software-engineered for real environments, real constraints, and repeatable performance. The focus is on turning an industrial or research concept into a deployable, field-ready solution, without losing momentum during integration and iteration.
What “custom robotics” means here
Custom robotics is delivered as an engineering partnership, not a one-off tweak. Depending on your project, the work can include:
- mission-driven system architecture (sensors, compute, connectivity, power),
- rugged mechanical design for your environment,
- ROS 2 integration and application software,
- rapid proof-of-concept builds and iterative prototyping,
- manufacturing preparation for a small batch or a scalable fleet.
The common denominator is simple: your project needs a mobile robot that’s tailored to a specific use case, not a generic platform with a few accessories.
Custom mobile robots for industry and research
Most mobile robotics projects face the same friction points: sensor placement, thermal behavior, EMI/noise, networking in harsh environments, serviceability, and maintaining stable performance over time. A custom approach helps solve those issues early-so the robot remains maintainable and scalable when moving beyond the pilot stage.
Typical application directions include inspection, monitoring, autonomous data collection, and mission-specific deployments where reliability matters as much as autonomy.
Deliverables you can expect
Custom robotics projects are successful when deliverables stay tangible. Typical outputs include:
- functional prototypes and/or production-ready units,
- integration-ready software components (including ROS 2 interfaces where applicable),
- test results and validation evidence from field runs,
- manufacturing documentation and serviceability guidelines,
- a clear handoff package at the milestone you choose (PoC, prototype, or production).
